Pibbix to shutdown on 14th August 2011

Earlier today we sent the following message to all Pibbix users:

Dear Pibbix user,

I'm sorry to inform you that Pibbix will be shutting down on the 14th August.

As Dan wrote earlier in the year, Pibbix was acquired recently by the team developing Bababoo, a new intelligent calling app. At the time of the acquisition we made all accounts free, but the time has now come to begin incorporating the Pibbix systems into Bababoo's and we are unable to continue providing the service.

SMS notifications have ceased with immediate effect (email notifications are still operating) and the service will cease operation completely on Sunday 14th August. Please use the web interface to download any messages you wish to retain - all data will be deleted and unrecoverable after this date.

If you have any billing or support queries please continue to use the support system or reply to this message to request help - I have attached a guide to re-enabling your network operator's voicemail below.

Dan and I want to thank you for your support and the enthusiasm with which you, our first users, embraced Pibbix. Bababoo will be offering early access to their forthcoming voicemail feature to any iPhone-owning Pibbix users - please let us know your interest by replying to this email.

Ben Smith

Not just voicemail...

4629387075_e4efce7409_o

The team are working hard on the launch preparations for Pibbix Voicemail, but we thought it might be fun to lift the lid on something that's just a little bit further down the line to remind everyone that Pibbix isn't just voicemail.

There are plenty more details to come, but in the meantime we think this picture is worth a thousand words.

The Pibbix team (Part 1)

Dan_lane_cropped
A few weeks ago I had an impromptu catch-up with a friend and telecoms industry big-wig (I'll avoid namedropping here) who was surprised when I told him that I was the founder of Pibbix. He'd heard of us and was already a customer but he had no idea I was even involved let alone the founder.

I guess that with the hectic launch of our first product we had neglected to toot our own horns and ever since that meeting I've been meaning to write a a few personal blog posts to introduce the company and the team behind Pibbix. Well, now I'm on a train hurtling through the English countryside with no chance of the phone ringing to interrupt me (no signal here) so I thought I'd write a quick introduction to me, Dan Lane.

Sevendotzero says "Pibbix sets a new standard for voice to text voicemail"

Blogger Jonathan Jensen has been using Pibbix Voicemail since our launch and has blogged his experience. He's also used the support system to make suggestions we've found very useful and will be including in our next update soon.

Pibbix uses a combination of automation and human conversion to deliver top quality transcriptions. The message transcriptions I've received over the past few days have been spot on - better than I was expecting... ...An example of the thought that has gone into the application is the ability to switch off transcription and SMS alerts for calls from withheld numbers (the message is still delivered as an MP3 attachment). The thinking here is that these calls are often unimportant and users may not want them to be counted against their bundle.

Our first write-up: Mobile Industry Review

Ewan from Mobile Industry Review was one of our first customers - immediately excited by the vision for Pibbix and what Pibbix Voicemail would offer immediately.  He puts it better than we could in our first blog coverage:

Their first product is Pibbix Voicemail. At first glance, it’s a terrifically simple system. It’s what’s coming next that’s going to change the world...

...Pibbix are building a solid, business-focused service that you can rely on.
